Man admits to killing 3-year-old Erin Brunett | Crime/Police

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. – Murder suspect Daniel Callihan, 36, told reporters Friday that he killed 3-year-old Erin Brunett the day before after murdering her mother, Callie Brunett, and abducting her children, including 6-year-old Jalie Brunett.

While being transported back to the Rankin County Jail on Friday, he told the media he was only taking medication for depression and confessed to the crime.

“Sober, with no drugs in my system, I did it,” he said. “I have no reason for what I did. I just want to say that I was sober and only on LexaPro – and off LexaPro – and I was also diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.”

Callihan said he was on suicide watch but was not suicidal.

He told reporters: “It would kill me” and he would not fight the charges. He said he welcomed the death penalty. “Because what I did, lethal injection, is the easiest thing for me.”

Callihan claimed he had only been in the mental hospital for two weeks.

The second suspect, a woman identified as 32-year-old Victoria Cox, was arrested along with Callihan on Thursday. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said both she and Callihan had been close recently.

Also on Friday, Rankin County released the charges against Callihan, which include capital murder, sexual battery and armed robbery. The number of counts of each load was not disclosed. TPSO said it has at least one count of first-degree murder locally.

Cox faces capital murder and sexual battery charges.

According to Sheriff Edwards, there are no further suspects at this time.
