New York is facing an “extremely serious” terrorism threat following the arrest of eight Tajik nationals on suspicion of ties to ISIS, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey State Security Chief Greg Ehrie.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that eight men originally from Tajikistan, who may have ties to ISIS-Khorasan or ISIS-K, were arrested in New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles after illegally entering the country through the U.S.-Mexico border .

Ehrie, who investigated terrorist threats for the FBI before joining the Port Authority, said during an appearance on CNN Erin Burnett in front on Friday that the arrests suggest a terrorist attack may be imminent.

“This is an extremely serious matter,” Ehrie said. “I compare it to a weather front. You see all fronts coming into play.”
