Hiker seriously injured on Koko Head Crater Trail in fall

The tracks at Koko Head can be viewed in January 2021 in East Oahu. A 40-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition after she fell approximately 10 feet while hiking the Koko Head Crater Trail in Hawaii Kai this morning.

A 40-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition after she fell approximately 10 feet while hiking the Koko Head Crater Trail in Hawaii Kai this morning.

The Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call about an unconscious hiker at 7:04 a.m. today. Six units of 17 personnel responded, with the first unit arriving 10 minutes later at 7:14 a.m. and ascending the trail on foot. The second unit secured the nearby landing zone.

HFD said the woman fell while hiking and was injured and was unable to get off the trail on her own. Paramedics arrived at the woman’s scene at 7:40 a.m., where they conducted a medical assessment and provided her with basic life support.

The tourist was transported by HFD’s Air 1 helicopter to the landing zone, where her medical care was transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services at 7:50 a.m.

The EMS report said EMS “recommended life-saving treatment for the woman” and took her to the emergency room in “serious but stable condition.”
