Woman arrested after leaving home alone with 2-year-old during 12-hour shift

Izard County, Arkansas – Joanna Taylor, 34, was arrested on July 2, 2024, and charged with 12 counts of child endangerment after she left her 2-year-old son locked in an apartment during her 12-hour shift.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Izard County officers were dispatched to Taylor’s residence after receiving a call from a concerned neighbor about the child’s well-being after learning of Taylor’s arrest in Fulton County on unrelated charges. The neighbor knew Taylor often left the child locked alone in her apartment.

When deputies arrived on the scene about 14 hours after Taylor’s arrest, they had to break down the door to get into the apartment and found the child alone in a back bedroom. The door to the bedroom was locked and there was a baby gate outside to prevent the child from leaving the room. All the lights were off, the child had no food or water and was found wearing two dirty diapers. Deputies called for medical assistance, changed the child’s diapers and gave him food and milk. The Izard County Sheriff’s Office noted that Taylor did not mention the child or tell anyone that he was alone while she was being held in jail.

During the interview, Taylor stated that she left him at the apartment 7 days a week while she was at work 12-hour shifts and continued to admit that she had left him alone every night for the past two months. Taylor also stated that she did this because she did not have a babysitter or family support. She was driving to work when she was arrested in Fulton County for failure to appear. Dupties also wants to note that once the family was notified about the child, they arrived at the department within minutes and arranged for him to be cared for.

The child was in extreme danger of death and injury when found in the apartment. Joanna Taylor is being held on $60,000 bail.
