3 arrested, but shooter free after shooting at 28th Street hotel

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Three people have been arrested, but the suspected shooter who opened fire in a Grand Rapids hotel room remains at large.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a shot was fired at the Red Roof Inn on 28th Street near I-96 in Cascade Township. Officers were called to the hotel around 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8.

In one of the hotel rooms, detectives found a shell casing and also secured a firearm.

Three arrests were made. Two people were taken into custody on outstanding warrants, and a third was arrested on unrelated charges. The sheriff’s office says it is still looking for the person who pulled the trigger.

Investigators say the shot was likely fired during an argument in the room. We’re told there’s no threat to the public.

Since the beginning of the year, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office has investigated 84 weapons-related crimes.
