14-year-old girl from Naples starts equestrian business

NAPLES, Fla. — Most sports require some type of equipment or gear to practice, and when it comes to equestrians, quality is key, especially when the animal weighs a thousand pounds.

“I love the thrill of learning new things on horseback,” said Juliette Douros Hawk.

Douros Hawk is a freshman in Collier County. At just 14 years old, she is an entrepreneur and an award-winning equestrian.

“There was a lack of things in the equestrian world that met other people’s needs, and sometimes mine,” Douros Hawk said.

She said her passion for horse riding came early… but she quickly realized something was missing.

“I needed something to hold all my hair up because I have really thick hair,” Douros Hawk said. “I sometimes wear two hairnets at shows, and it’s very uncomfortable.”

In addition to show socks, saddles and other colorful accessories, he was already building his business before he even finished high school.

This year, her company, EQ Pro, is donating a portion of its profits and sponsoring scholarships through the Interscholastic Equestrian Association to help other young riders pursue their dreams, which will be used to fund riding camps.

Juliette and her horse Abbey will compete at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida in August.
