Woman found dead NYC 31: Man, 55, in police custody after body found wrapped in plastic and sleeping bag

KIPS BAY, Manhattan (WABC) — A 55-year-old man has been arrested after the body of 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams was found in a sleeping bag in Kips Bay last week.

The medical examiner’s office determined that Williams was shot in the head and her death was ruled a homicide.

Chad Irish has been charged with concealing a body. He has not been charged in Williams’ death, but the investigation is ongoing.

Irish has 21 arrests on his record dating back to the early 1990s and has been sent to state prison multiple times.

He was most recently released on parole for a robbery in the Bronx in July 2022.

The community where the woman was found is outraged. The crowd shouted “murderer” Monday night as police carried Irish from the home on an EMS stretcher.

The footage shows officers trying to control the crowd during tense moments, rushing forward and even punching Irish while he was in custody.

Meanwhile, family and friends continue to mourn the loss of a loved one as a makeshift memorial site has been set up.

Williams’ family described her as someone who wanted to be an advocate for women and a part of the justice system fighting for victims’ rights.

“She was beautiful, she was sweet, she was college-educated, she was just a good person,” said the victim’s aunt, Nisha Ramirez.
