Lindsay Lohan spends four hours in jail

Lindsay Lohan once again has the final say.

The actress was released early from the overcrowded jail on Monday morning after serving just over four hours of her sentence starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

“All I can tell you is that she has been released,” Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Moore told PEOPLE on Monday morning.

A sheriff’s spokesman previously explained that Lohan could be released early due to a federal order to ease prison overcrowding. Non-violent offenders are routinely sent home early after serving only a fraction of their sentence.

Lohan, 25, turned herself in at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, after being sentenced last week to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to violating her probation in connection with drunken driving and stealing necklaces.

Now she has to walk a tightrope: she has to work an additional 53 days as a cleaner in a Los Angeles morgue and attend 18 additional sessions of psychotherapy – all by the end of March.

If she makes a mistake, she faces an additional 270 days in prison, although she could also be released early due to overcrowding.
