Rawalpindi: A 22-year-old awaiting trial prisoner was allegedly killed with the involvement of prison staff and his body was later shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) to cover up the truth, police said. The Sadar Bairuni police filed a first information report (FIR) based on a complaint by the victim’s father and are currently investigating the case.

Shahid Nisar Bhatti filed a complaint at Sadar Bairuni Police Station stating that his 22-year-old son, Shahwaiz Bhatti, was sent to the jail on remand in May 2024. He mentioned that there was a dispute between his son and other prisoners, led by Saim Abbas, after an altercation. He also explained that he received a message from the jail informing him that his son had been shifted to DHQ in a critical condition. While rushing to DHQ, he found that his son had died.

The applicant was informed by his son’s friends in prison that his opponents, with the help of prison staff, had killed him and taken his body to hospital. The police opened an investigation.
