Woman (50) seriously injured in car-lorry crash in Louth

A woman in her 50s is in hospital with serious injuries she sustained after a collision between a lorry and a car in Co Louth today.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious two-vehicle crash which occurred on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road at Ballymascanlan at around 12:10pm.

The female driver of the car, aged in her 50s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment of serious injuries.

The truck driver, 40, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for medical examination.

No other injuries were reported at this time.

The road is currently closed while police carry out technical inspections and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users with dashcam footage who were travelling on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road, Ballymascanlan, Co. Louth, between 11:30am and 12:30pm today, Tuesday 9th July 2024, are asked to share this footage with Gardaí.
