Florida man drops 4-year-old boy headfirst from second-story balcony after drinking at beach resort: police

A Florida man who spent the day drinking with a woman he met at a Daytona Beach pool has been charged with hanging her 4-year-old son from a second-story balcony — and dropping the boy on his head, police said.

According to WESH-TV News, 31-year-old Brandon Gilmore met the boy’s mother at the Sandlewood Beach Resort pool on Saturday, spent the day drinking with her and then took his son out of the room to “scare him a little bit.”

“He just played with them and played with them,” eyewitness Dasanni Bentley said.

“And then he let go and held him by one foot. And then the kids slid out of him and fell right on his head on the concrete — no grass.”

Brandon Gilmore, 31, is facing child abuse charges after he allegedly threw a 4-year-old boy off the second-story balcony of a Daytona Beach home on Saturday. Volusia County Jail

Bentley said Gilmore and the boy’s mother, who had met just five hours earlier at the hotel pool, ran downstairs when the boy fell to the ground.

“His face started to take on a deliberate look,” she said of the injured boy. “He obviously wasn’t getting any oxygen. It wasn’t a good situation.”

The child was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.

“The child is doing well, has been released from the hospital, and is not expected to have any long-term health issues as a result of this tragic incident,” police told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

Police said surveillance footage shows Gilmore holding the boy in his arms, then grabbing his leg and pushing him off the balcony — before he fell to the ground.

Gilmore faces charges of aggravated child abuse and remained in the Volusia County Jail without bail Tuesday morning.
