The White Ferns lost 2-0 to England in their five-match Twenty20 international series after a rain-induced 23-point defeat in Hove.

Delayed by weather, the match was reduced to nine overs each and England impressed, scoring 89 for six after being sent on.

New Zealand were unable to respond and were 42-5 in 6.4 overs when rain again ended the match prematurely and, according to DLS calculations, the tourists were soundly beaten.

As has been the case throughout their tour, the White Ferns’ top flight struggled as captain Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr all failed to reach double figures.

Brooke Halliday top-scored with 14 but was sent off when the visitors needed to pick up the pace and lost their opening game at Southampton by 59 points.

Earlier, experienced New Zealand players Lea Tahuhu (2-20) and Kerr (2-21) topped their two overs.

Alice Capsey was England’s leading scorer with 28, while Maia Bouchier scored 23 goals.

The third T20 match will take place in Canterbury on Friday morning (NZT).

New Zealand are still searching for their first win on tour after losing 3-0 to an elegant England in a one-day international.
