What Happened to Soldier Boy in The Boys Season 4: Is He Dead?

Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy is a fan-favorite Supe in the world of The boysHowever, despite the huge role he plays in season 3, he has yet to appear in season 4. But is he dead?

The character was first introduced on-screen in season 3 as a series adaptation of Captain America, who became the world’s first superhero and helped Vought spread propaganda during World War II.

However, like most Compound-V-wielding individuals, he is a complete jerk, so much so that his former team, Payback, sold him to the Russians to be experimented on for decades.

He was actually last seen in Generation Vthe first season, even though he was just a construct of Cate’s imagination as the main characters passed through their friend’s mind.

What happened to Soldier Boy in The Boys?

Although Soldier Boy did not appear in The boys Season 4, as of this writing he is not dead.

Currently, he is in cryogenic sleep in a secret facility after being recovered by Grace Mallory at the end of Season 3.

While most of Season 3 revolved around Hughie and Butcher helping the Supe track down and kill his former teammates, the finale saw Soldier Boy try to keep his word to the Boys in return: killing Homelander himself.

And he tries to do just that by confronting Homelander at Vought HQ. It almost feels like this could be Homelander’s last day on Earth, until a complication presents itself: Butcher’s stepson, Ryan.

In order to protect Ryan from dying in the fallout from Soldier Boy’s battle with Homelander and Supe’s power-stealing outburst, Butcher and the Boys are forced to work with Homelander to try to stop Jensen Ackles’ character from wiping the floor with everyone there.

While the team does a respectable job of trying to hold off Soldier Boy, the Supe eventually charges in for one last deadly blast. Luckily, Queen Maeve is there to make one last sacrifice.

The hero throws Soldier Boy out of the skyscraper’s windows, where the explosion occurs, sparing everyone inside. Fortunately, Queen Maeve survives the blast, helpless but alive.

After the big fight, the rest of the world, including Homelander, believes that Maeve and Soldier Boy are dead. However, they are both alive and well.

However, in the case of Jensen Ackles’ dangerous wild card, “well” is a relative term, as he’s put on ice, out of sight and out of mind.

Will Soldier Boy appear in The Boys season 4?

Considering how the plot has played out so far in Season 4, fans probably shouldn’t expect Soldier Boy to appear in a notable role until the end of the season.

From a narrative standpoint, Victoria Nueman has inherited Soldier Boy’s place as the show’s antagonist, and she’s currently the center of attention, almost more so than Homelander.

Reintroducing Soldier Boy into the picture at this point might be too much for the show’s plot to handle and be unnecessarily distracting.

However, fans should definitely expect the character to reappear at some point before the series ends with season 5.

In a 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly, The boys Showrunner Eric Kripke has openly admitted that he “I can’t imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance:”

“The old TV adage is, never kill anyone unless you really, really have to. Never close a door, never open a window… We’ll all have to wait and see, but I can’t imagine the series ending without another appearance from Soldier Boy.”

In Jensen Ackles’ interview with Entertainment Weekly, which also took place in 2022, he said he knew “There are projects under discussion” that his character returns after season 3 and that “(he) will come running” whenever they are put into action:

“I know Kripke is very smart about how he sends his characters out, because he can always bring them back… So I know there are projects that are being discussed, but I don’t know exactly what they are. But I told Krip, ‘Listen, man, put me to work whenever you want. You tell me when I need to come running, I’ll come running.'”

The actor had already been seen with a The boys The production hat from Season 4, which led many to believe was due to return at some point in this new episode. Perhaps Jensen Ackles came in for something brief, like a post-credits scene to tease the future of the series.

Fans will have to wait and see if that’s the case. But at least everyone can be sure that the world will be treated to more of Ackles’ fan-favorite performances as the not-so-likable Captain America.

The boys is currently streaming on Amazon Studios Prime Video.
