Duchess Kate’s ‘serious’ face goes viral

Duchess Kate’s reaction to being asked to pose for a “serious” photo has fans laughing after footage from a 2016 mental health awareness campaign featuring Prince William and Prince Harry resurfaced on TikTok.

Kate, William and Harry launched the Heads Together campaign through their Royal Foundation in 2016 with the aim of “changing the national conversation around mental wellbeing” by working with a group of charities and organisations working across a range of areas.

The campaign began with the announcement that a group of charities would run together under the Heads Together banner in the 2017 London Marathon. This was accompanied by a launch film featuring William, Harry and Kate, filmed at Kensington Palace in the English capital.

User @milfssb shared a cutout clip from the premiere video on TikTok on July 8, and it has since gone viral. William asks his wife and brother to pose for a “serious” photo after the royal trio burst into laughter.

“This is serious, guys! This is serious,” William can be seen telling his wife and brother in the clip, before Kate adopts a serious expression, breaking into a smile.

The caption: “This was actually… nothing serious… she’s like me but I always laugh in serious situations.” The video also includes a compilation of clips from some of Kate’s high-profile royal engagements in recent years. They include the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle in Berkshire and the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood’s ‘Shaping Us’ symposium at The Design Museum in London in 2023.

The TikTok post has so far been viewed more than 120,000 times on the social media site, liked by more than 27,000 people and garnered more than 140 comments, many of which praised Kate and her silly facial expression.

“I’m in love with her, she behaves like a queen,” one user wrote.

“Her little smile before she tried to pull herself together,” wrote another, while in another comment she wrote: “Harry, Kate, William the best trio.”

In 2024, Kate avoided public life mainly due to undergoing preventive chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer.

The princess announced her health issues in a public statement in March, and gave a positive update last month. Kate said that while she is not yet “out of the woods” and is still undergoing treatment, she is feeling well enough to start working from home and start appearing in public over the summer.

The princess made her public return on June 15 for the Trooping the Colour celebrations in London. She received a warm welcome when she appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace alongside King Charles III, Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family.
