Los Angeles police have arrested a man who was allegedly recorded dropping a seven-month-old puppy down a flight of stairs in Koreatown.

Joeboury Coleman, 27, was charged with animal cruelty and remained in custody without bail on Tuesday.

On Sunday, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Rampart Division responded to an apartment complex in the 4000 block of Oakwood Avenue after “concerned citizens” saw video of the abuse on social media, police said.

At least two cameras captured footage of a shirtless man carrying a squealing puppy by its neck to a railing and then throwing it down the stairs of a multi-story building. The dog survived and ran back up the stairs.

“Officers observed and detained the male depicted in the social media posts in the alley behind the establishment,” police said in a statement announcing Coleman’s arrest. “They conducted a search of the individual’s residence and located the dog depicted in the social media video kicked and thrown down the stairs.”

Police said the dog was taken to a local animal shelter for treatment for a broken hind leg that resulted from the fall. The dog was also malnourished, police said.
