Teenager drowns in Quarry Park

WAITE PARK (WJON News) — A teenager drowned in Quarry Park and Waite Park Nature Reserve.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, they received a call about a possible drowning at Quarry 11.

Witnesses said a 17-year-old boy jumped off a 10-foot cliff into the water and never resurfaced. Witnesses tried to dive into the water but were unable to find him.

Members of the Stearns/Benton Dive Team, along with Waite Park and St. Cloud firefighters, deployed boats and began searching the quarry. At approximately 8:45 p.m., the victim was found approximately 31 feet below the surface.
