Shreveport Jail Inmate Charged After Attacking Guard

SHREVEPORT, LA – Inmate charged after attacking guard at Shreveport City Jail

On July 6, 2024, Shreveport police officers attempted to transport a 33-year-old man Sammy Powell to Caddo Correctional Facility when Powell became angry and refused to cooperate with prison staff. During the incident, Powell repeatedly threatened prison staff and eventually assaulted a guard before being subdued.

As a result of his actions, Powell was charged with assaulting a police officer, threatening a public official, and resisting an officer. Fortunately, the prison guard involved in the incident was not injured.

This incident highlights the daily challenges and risks our corrections officers face. The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to the safety of both our employees and inmates.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
