BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) – A Bloomington woman accused of driving under the influence in the death of her 8-year-old son, Raymundo Bucio Flores, has been released ahead of trial.

Court documents show the suspect, 35-year-old Stephany Flores-Ramirez, faces four counts of driving under the influence in connection with the fatal crash that occurred Wednesday on I-74 westbound between Downs and Bloomington.

According to the documents, Ramirez’s vehicle crossed the center median and caused a head-on collision in the westbound lane. The other driver had to be extricated and airlifted to OSF St. Francis with life-threatening injuries.

In addition, Ramirez allegedly told the first officer on the scene that there were no children in her vehicle. She later recanted her statement and told emergency personnel that there was a child in the vehicle.

The initial investigation revealed that one of the officers saw the boy bleeding and motionless in the back of the vehicle. He was taken to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The documents also indicate that police officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and found alcohol bottles at the scene, including one in the driver’s door of Ramirez’s car.

Her pre-trial hearing is scheduled for late July.
