Oldham News | Main News | Services suspended on part of Rochdale to Oldham tram line as tracks damaged by earth movement

Date published: July 10, 2024

Metrolink services will be suspended on part of the Rochdale line through Oldham today (Wednesday) after the operator said some ground movement could affect the track between Derker and Shaw and Crompton.

A speed limit has been imposed to allow trams to run safely later in the day and the street needs to be closed from today so engineers can carry out further enquiries.

This means trams will not be able to run beyond Oldham Mumps station and passengers will be able to use their tickets on local buses.

Pete Sommers, Metrolink Network Director at TfGM, said: “The safety of our passengers, staff and the general public is our absolute priority which is why we have taken these decisions.

“I understand this will be frustrating for passengers and I sympathise with the impact this will have on their journeys.

“We will update you on the latest developments as soon as we can and I would encourage people who travel frequently in the area to check our app, website and social media channels for the latest information and advice.”
