PSNI make arrest after man attacked and chased in car in Newtownabbey

Police made the arrest after receiving reports of a man being assaulted and chased in a vehicle in Newtownabbey.

The alleged incident occurred on Monday, July 8.

A 41-year-old man was reportedly attacked by a group of men in the O’Neill Road area at around 2pm.

The man was then stopped in his car on Antrim Road by a black Volkswagen Tiguan which pulled into his path.

Insp Cullen said: “As he fled he was pursued by a Tiguan for some time before his blue Mercedes was rammed from behind.

“At the traffic lights in Fortwilliam, a man got out of the Tiguan and approached the Mercedes, but the victim drove away.

“A 19-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and other related offences. He was released on police bail pending further enquiries.”

Enquiries are continuing and police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1390 08/07/24.
