Sarah Ferguson Reveals Why She and Princess Diana Were Almost Arrested at Their Hen Party: ‘Her Costume Was Really Good’

Sarah Ferguson has revealed she and Princess Diana were almost arrested for impersonating policewomen during her hen party.

The Duchess of York, now 64, made the revelation in a podcast where she said she “loved” the late princess.

“I called her Dutch,” she said. Thornton’s White Wine Q&A Time podcast. “We had a great time together.”

She then told a funny story about her hen party before her wedding to Prince Andrew in 1986.

“At my bachelorette party, we dressed up as police officers and got arrested by the Parks police,” she laughed. “They put us in the back of the Parks police van, and Diana leaned over and ate his smoked bacon chips.”

She explained that the crisps belonged to the man driving the police van, having previously informed Kelly Clarkson that the pair had been arrested after visiting a nightclub in full police uniform.

It is illegal to impersonate a police officer in the UK, and the Crown Prosecution Service says it can result in a sentence of up to six months in prison “and/or a fine at the statutory rate”.

The Duchess added: “We eventually got out but the next day I was dragged in front of the boss (the Queen). But luckily HM (Her Majesty) was laughing.”

Fergie added that staff at a club they visited mistook the couple’s outfits for police uniforms.

“Princess Diana’s costume was very good,” she said. “We sat down and the waiter came over to us and said, ‘Excuse me, this is a members’ club and it’s for fun. We don’t serve police here.’”

After Fergie told Clarkson about the incident last year, she said fond memories of the late duchess keep it fresh in her mind.

“She is with me all day long,” said the Duchess. “She and I laughed a lot. We often got into trouble.

“You know what she used to do? She would tell me the worst jokes before I had to be serious.”

Fergie once again recalled this funny story after a difficult start to the year in which she beat cancer for a second time.

Her daughter, Princess Beatrice, was the first to announce her recovery after she was diagnosed with skin cancer in January, just six months after being fully recovered from breast cancer.

Beatrice, 35, said her mother made a “complete recovery” in May and is now “thriving”.

“She’s been through so much, but I think she’s really starting to come around now,” she said. This morning.
