Five girls arrested after alleged car theft left victim traumatised in Melbourne

Five teenage girls, including a 13-year-old, arrested after alleged car theft and chase Melbourne southeast at night.
Police They allege that at approximately 12.20am a Ford Escape Wagon was stolen from Troy Street in Bonbeach, leaving the victim traumatised.

“It’s really scary. I have a young family and I wouldn’t wish this on anyone else,” he told 9News.

The teenagers are known to have been riding an electric scooter before they allegedly stole the car.

They continued driving the allegedly stolen vehicle until they were arrested by police who implemented a traffic stop in Parkdale, approximately 9km away.

A 13-year-old girl from Cranbourne North, a 14-year-old girl from Carrum Downs and a 14-year-old girl from Chelsea have been released pending a court appearance.

A 14-year-old girl from Seaford and a 14-year-old girl from Bonbeach have both been given warnings.

The event comes as Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes and Police Minister Anthony Carbines met with Victoria Police and youth justice staff to discuss youth crime prevention.

Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said today’s meetings were “productive.”

“Youth crime has always been a problem for us. It always has been and always will be,” he said.
