A ‘serious’ morning accident involving two trucks and a car has blocked a section of the motorway

The westbound carriageway has been closed following a crash between J9 of the M6 ​​motorway and J7 at Rainhill, Merseyside.

National Highways services received information about the accident at around 6am on Thursday.

There are traffic delays at the scene of the crash and National Highways said the road closure was expected to last throughout the morning.

In a letter sent to X (formerly Twitter), it was reported that “all emergency services arrived at the scene.”

The National Motorways Authority reported that the westbound carriageway was closed due to a “serious collision”

The National Motorways Authority recommended that drivers use the following detour route.

It is recommended that redirected traffic be routed according to the full diamond redirection symbol:

Leave the M62 westbound at junction J9

At the roundabout take the first exit and follow the A49 south until you reach the A574 roundabout

At the roundabout take the third exit and follow the A574 to the Westbrook Way roundabout

At this point it is recommended to direct the alternating traffic according to the empty square symbol:

At the Burtonwood Road/Westbrook Way roundabout, take the third exit onto Whittle Avenue southbound and continue for 0.4 miles (0.6 km).

At Whittle Avenue/Malvern Close roundabout, take the third exit onto Lingley Green Avenue westbound and follow it for 1.4 miles (passing through four roundabouts).

At the Lingley Green Avenue/A57 junction turn right onto the A57 westbound and continue for 3.5 miles

At the A57/M62 roundabout, take the 2nd exit and return to the M62 westbound.
