ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — The principal of a local high school in Albemarle County has been arrested on child abuse charges.

LaRuth Ensley faces two counts of assault in Henrico County Juvenile and Family Court.

She was arrested Tuesday for alleged child abuse, serious injury and assault and battery on a family member. Both charges are class 4 felonies. Both incidents allegedly occurred on May 1.

Ensley has been the principal of Henley Middle School in Crozet since July 2022.

She made her first court appearance Wednesday, and school officials have not yet commented on the case. They are gathering information and are limited in what they can say about the employees.

Ensley was released from custody and will appear in court on August 26. Albemarle County students will return to school on August 21.
