Babysitter’s husband arrested, accused of molesting at least three children

A Riverside man was arrested by police earlier this month after allegations emerged that he sexually abused a 4-year-old girl at a daycare center run in his home.

Antonio Chavez, 65, was arrested July 3 on charges of molesting the girl while she attended a licensed family care center run by his wife.

Antonio Chavez, 65, of Riverside is shown in this undated police mugshot released by the Riverside Police Department. Chavez is accused of sexually abusing at least three children who attended his wife’s daycare.

Chavez Family Daycare is located in a family home at 18400 Blue Sky Street and has been a licensed child care provider since 2010.

After receiving the initial complaint, Riverside Police began an investigation and contacted other families whose children attended the day care center.

As a result of the investigation, police determined that over the past three years, Chavez allegedly sexually abused two other children who attended a day care center run by the orphanage. These crimes were never disclosed.

Now, police are concerned there may be additional victims who have not yet been contacted. Anyone with additional information about the victims is asked to contact RPD Detective Victoria Mutuku by email or by calling 951-353-7945.

Chavez was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in downtown Riverside and was set at $1 million bail.

Police added that a complaint against Chavez Family Daycare was filed with the state licensing authority.
