Strange Viewer Complaints About New Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron Movie

New Netflix romantic comedy Family matter has an all-star cast, including Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, and Joey King. The film tells the story of the mother of a young celebrity assistant who begins a passionate affair with her daughter’s boss.

Zara, played by Joey King, is forced to navigate life when her mother Brooke (Nicole) begins an intimate relationship with her self-centered boss, movie star Chris (Zac). Brooke faces the conflict of being a mother as well as a woman reclaiming her identity and sexuality.

When the trailer was released, fans were eager to see the dynamic between Nicole and Zac.

“Never thought I’d see Nicole Kidman in a relationship with Zac Efron. Man, the movies this year are going to be crazy,” one person commented under the YouTube trailer. “Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron in a movie was not on my bingo card,” another said.

But with Family matter The film recently premiered on Netflix, and many fans had similar comments, claiming that they were distracted by Zac Efron’s face.

In various movie review threads on Facebook and Reddit, people expressed their opinions on the film, but many kept coming back to one thing: Zac Efron’s face.

“The movie itself was cheesy, but in a cute girly way. But I couldn’t get over how much I disliked Zac’s face now!” one person said. “He used to be sooo handsome!!! That kind of ruined the movie for me. Nicole’s hair color kind of annoyed me too. They don’t have any natural facial expressions.”

“I couldn’t even watch it all the way through (for many reasons) but the first reason was Zac Efron, I kept thinking he was starting to look like that guy who was obsessed with the look of a Ken doll. Zac used to have nice eyes, now you can barely see them,” another person complained.

“We couldn’t take this seriously. My daughter and I turned it off. We couldn’t get over Zac Efron’s new chin, and my daughter thought he was too young for Nicole Kidman,” another said. “Zac was weirdly different,” another added.

“I turned it off because it was boring and Zac’s face was weird,” someone else bluntly noted.

“I find it very sad that so many people think it’s appropriate to publicly criticize others’ appearance, as I’ve seen in the comments. I think Nicole is beautiful as always and Zac is a very handsome man,” one person said. “He clearly had an accident that required reconstructive surgery and I hope he doesn’t see any cruel comments about his face.”

“The movie was funny and sweet. I didn’t care about the comments about Zac Efron’s face because his body was all I could see rocking,” another added. “All I saw was handsome Squidward. What makes him happy I guess?” another said.

Zac Efron suffered a traumatic accident in 2013 when he slipped in his home and smashed his face on a marble counter. The actor said he passed out and woke up with his chin bone “hanging out of his face,” and has reportedly had to undergo multiple surgeries and physical therapy over the years to help parts of his face function.

Zac explained in an interview that after his injury, his masseter muscles grew because they were overcompensating for other muscles.

Fans have speculated for years that it was not an accident that changed his appearance, but a combination of fillers and steroids, taken to gain muscle mass for other film projects.

“But can you explain why his face changed from ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile’ in 2019 to what? His accident happened in 2013, in my opinion he made a much bigger adjustment if you compare his face in 2019 and 2024?” one person wrote on Reddit.

“It doesn’t matter that it happened 11 years ago, scar tissue, muscle growth, age, issues with the original surgery… a lot of things can happen, are we just going to pretend none of this matters after facial reconstruction? Everyone heals differently, none of us know their medical history,” one person said in defense of the star.

Zac has previously spoken out about the questions people have about his face, claiming he doesn’t pay attention to social media.

“If I valued what others think of me as much as they may think, I certainly wouldn’t be able to do this job,” he said. Men’s health in 2022.
