After months of radio silence on Wander Franco, we finally have a major update from the Dominican Republic. The Tampa Bay Rays player has been formally charged and now faces up to 20 years in prison for sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor.

I don’t know about you, but I forgot about this story while it was going down. I’m glad Franco is actually going to face consequences instead of being some rich guy who corrupted the system. That said, while 20 years is harsh, it’s not nearly enough. You’d think adding the human trafficking charges would bump that number up a notch. The guy should be in prison for life. In fact, throw him in prison without the possibility of parole.

One part of what I find interesting is the mother of the victim who allegedly offered her 14 year old daughter to Franco in exchange for thousands of dollars. These are vile people who deserve the horrible things that are going to happen to them.

What an incredibly sad story about a player who could potentially become one of the faces of the game. He had a $182 million contract to take care of his family for generations. He is also married with two sons. He blew it all to be the biggest scoundrel. Rot in hell. Hopefully the legal system there will lock him up and the victim(s) will find a better life.
