Authorities said a 64-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, June 10, on suspicion of fatally shooting his neighbor in downtown Long Beach.

Around 12:30 p.m., the victim was shot multiple times along the 700 block of East 1st Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity was not released on Wednesday.

John Higginbotham, 64, was a neighbor and knew the victim, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of murder, although the motive remains under investigation.
