Supreme Court Prosecutor Orders Immediate Initiation of Investigation into Organized Crime Activities

Supreme Court Prosecutor Georgia Adeilini issued an order Wednesday to immediately investigate cases involving criminal organizations, money laundering, murders and other serious crimes linked to mafia networks in Mykonos, other Cyclades islands, as well as in Athens and Thessaloniki. Adeilini ordered the prosecutor supervising police investigations into organized crime to immediately investigate these serious crimes, especially in Mykonos.

The initiative follows the recent brutal murder of civil engineer Panagiotis Stathis, who was based on the island’s Neo Psychiko district in northern Athens.

In order to thoroughly investigate these crimes, Adeilini ordered the use of all necessary means, including the lifting of telephone and other confidentiality (such as bank and tax records). She also asked for close reporting on the progress of the investigation.
