27-year-old man arrested after car crash on Thornhill Road

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of numerous drug and driving offenses following a car crash at Caerphilly Mountain.

A Volkswagen Polo collided with a lamp post and a tree along the A469 Thornhill Road on Monday, June 10, at around 3pm.

A 23-year-old woman from the Pontypool area, who was traveling in the car, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A man from the Cwmbran area was also taken to hospital for treatment.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, driving while disqualified and causing injury by dangerous driving, as well as possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply.

He is currently in police custody.

Gwent Police officers attended the crash along with staff from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service.

Gwent Police confirmed the incident had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
