A Batley man has been jailed for 21 years after becoming the latest defendant to be jailed as part of a major police investigation into the sexual abuse of young women.

Sajad Hussain (40) was sentenced on Monday, June 10, at Leeds Crown Court in the latest sentence for Operation Tourway, a multi-year investigation into the recent sexual abuse of young women in North Kirklees.

Sajad Hussain

Hussain was convicted of raping and falsely imprisoning a then-20-year-old woman in 2010–2011.

He was also convicted of human trafficking and aiding and abetting the rape of the then 18-year-old victim in 2008–2009.

His Honor Judge Phillips sentenced Hussain to 21 years in prison with an extended license period of five years.

The 40-year-old was found guilty of the offenses last year and is the 25th man to be sentenced under Operation Tourway.

His sentence means the courts awarded a total of 367 years in prison to the men convicted in the investigation.

Operation Tourway itself was a long-running investigation into the sexual exploitation and trafficking of eight female victims in North Kirklees between 1999 and 2012.

DCI Oliver Coates, of Kirklees District Police, said: “Every sentence handed down in Operation Tourway marks another victory for the victims in this case and means they are taking another step towards securing justice for all these men for the terrible crimes they committed.
“Sajad Hussain committed very serious sexual crimes and aided others in committing them by speaking out about his attitude towards victims, whom he treated with contempt and contempt.
“The significant sentence handed down reflects the depth of his offending and we hope it brings comfort to his victims.
“He forced them both to relive their suffering during a difficult trial, but they can take the satisfaction that a jury of their peers saw through his lies and denials and convicted him for who he is.”

He added: “We continue to urge any victims of sexual violence who may not have reported what happened to them to contact us.
“All reports are thoroughly investigated by specialist officers who can also refer victims to any support they need.
“As this case and others in the Tourway investigation demonstrate, we will always investigate no matter how long ago the crime occurred.”
