Gardaí at the scene of a serious collision on an Irish motorway while the road was closed

Part of a busy motorway in Munster was closed by police this morning following a serious road collision which caused major delays in the area.

The M8 northbound road has been blocked due to a collision between junctions 8 and 9 in Co Tipperary.

According to AA Roadwatch, their interactive map showed large queues near the scene of the accident as traffic came to a standstill along a 147km stretch of the motorway.

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí attended a single vehicle collision on the M8 road in Co Tipperary this morning, Tuesday, June 11, 2024. As a result, the northbound M8 motorway was closed from junction 8 to junction 9 for a period of time and has now been closed reopened.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time and we are awaiting a full report on the incident.

Separately, last night (10 June 2024) members of An Garda Síochána in Co. Roscommon encountered a BMW driver who had apparently forgotten his driving license at home.

After checking the driver’s cards at the roadside, it turned out that the driver had lost his driving license.

The vehicle was stopped by police who shared a photo online of a BMW on the back of a flatbed truck on a country road, again warning drivers of the consequences of illegal driving.
