A 2-year-old child drowned in the western valley on Monday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded to a report of a drowning at a residence in the 3900 block of Redwood Street around 1:50 p.m.

Police said the child was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing.
