The lawsuit concerns the unlawful eviction of tornado victims – Examiner Online

Since the devastating EF3 tornado that hit Lakeview in March, some of the most affected and vulnerable mobile home residents have had to deal not only with the devastation left by nature, but also with the alleged actions of their owners.

The lawsuit, filed in Logan County Common Pleas Court, alleges that Colonial Mobile Estates LLC, owner of the six-acre mobile home park located at 8890 Township Rd 239, began demolishing homes without warning its tenants.

According to residents, some houses are beyond repair, but not all. Demolition of the caravans began just days after the tornado, and some families were unable to return and collect everything that was left.

Kristina Coen, an attorney with Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, is leading legal efforts on behalf of 17 families living in the park.

Residents there have faced significant challenges since the tornado struck. including being cut off from the media. In April, residents received a 30-day notice declaring the property uninhabitable and ordering it to evacuate by the end of May.

The lawsuit seeks to compensate affected families up to $25,000 per resident.

Since the tornadoes, ABLE has been helping struggling families. joining community partners and nonprofits to offer information sessions on tenants’ rights and legal assistance.
