Multiple buildings catch fire near downtown Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – Authorities are responding to a large fire near downtown Kalamazoo early Tuesday morning.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said the fire was reported around 4 a.m. on Allen Boulevard, near the intersection of W. Main Street and Westnedge Avenue.

West Michigan Avenue is closed at Michikal Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route while authorities investigate and work to extinguish the flames.

A News 8 crew responding to the scene reported that three homes were on fire.

According to KDPS, the house where the fire broke out is empty.

It is not known what caused the fire or whether anyone was injured.
