Robert Lewandowski suffered a serious injury a few days before the start of the Polish national team at Euro 2024

Robert Lewandowski suffered an injury a few days before the start of the European Championships in Germany.

Robert Lewandowski suffered an injury a few days before the start of the European Championships in Germany.

On Monday, the Polish striker was forced to leave the field in the 32nd minute of the last warm-up match against Turkey, in which the Poles won a last-gasp 2-1 victory in Warsaw.

Poland will start its European Championship campaign on Sunday against the Netherlands, which defeated Iceland 4-0 in the last friendly match in Rotterdam.

However, Lewandowski will be absent from this match because it was revealed that he suffered a biceps femoris muscle injury.

The statement assured that everything would be done to ensure that Lewandowski was ready for the second match in the competition.

“Robert Lewandowski suffered a rupture of the biceps femoris muscle, which will exclude him from the first match of the tournament,” Polish doctor Jacek Jaroszewski said in a statement on Tuesday. “We are doing everything so that Robert can play in the second match against Austria.”

Lewandowski assisted on fellow striker Karol Świderski’s goal in the 12th minute against Turkey, and the Charlotte FC star also withdrew with an injury in the 19th minute.

On Monday, Michał Probierz downplayed the scale of Lewandowski’s injury and assured that there were no plans to appoint a successor to the 35-year-old Barcelona star.

“Robert has a slight injury, let’s hope there will be no problems,” said Probierz. “Karol sprained his ankle, the situation will be known after the tests.

“The replacement of Paweł Dawidowicz was also due to an injury. I hope they will recover after a few days. We don’t plan to call anyone.”

Poland’s latest injury concerns come after Juventus striker Arkadiusz Milik was ruled out of the tournament with an injury.
