Father charged in death of 2-year-old son in Prince George’s County

Lance Harrison

OXON HILL, Maryland – The Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit has charged a father in connection with the death of his two-year-old son. The victim is Kayceson Barkley of Oxon Hill. His father, Lance Harrison, 32, of Oxon Hill, is charged with child abuse resulting in death.

On June 9, 2024, at approximately 3:40 a.m., officers responded to a residence at 5400 Livingston Terrace. The officers found an unconscious boy with numerous injuries. He was pronounced dead in hospital shortly afterwards.

An autopsy performed on Sunday showed that the child suffered numerous fractures, extensive bruising and hemorrhaging. The medical examiner determined some of the injuries were unrelated to the accident. Pending additional tests, the medical examiner will determine the specific cause of death. A preliminary investigation revealed that Harrison had sole custody of his son at the time of his fatal injuries.

After consulting with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, Harrison is charged with first-degree child abuse resulting in death and related offenses. He was taken to the Department of Corrections.
