84-year-old woman injured in New York shooting as she sat next to group in Walker: ‘They were in shock’

An 84-year-old woman was sitting in a walker when she was injured in a shooting in Brooklyn on Monday, June 10.

According to WABC-An unidentified woman was on the corner of Foster and Brooklyn streets in Brooklyn when she was hit by a stray bullet after a man opened fire on a group of people around 6:30 p.m. local time. Television, News 12 Brooklyn and New York Daily News.

One of the bullets hit the woman in the left arm. She was then taken to hospital for treatment, and her condition, according to the facilities, is stable.

According to WABC-TV, as many as 20 shell casings were found at the scene.

The police are still looking for the perpetrator of the shooting and are asking residents for help in identifying the suspect. Officials also told News 12 the woman was not the intended target, but the cause of the shooting remains unclear.

The New York Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on the incident.

In response to the news, City Council member Farah Louis posted a statement on Facebook, saying, “It is appalling that an elderly person would suffer such senseless violence and appalling that gun violence remains a prevalent issue in our communities.”

“We cannot stand by and allow this to become part of our daily lives,” she continued. “My thoughts and prayers are with this elderly woman as we wish her a safe and speedy recovery. Violence has no place in our community!”
