New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has asked the concerned superintendent of prisons to submit a report on the health condition of Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramachandran Pillai, arrested in a money laundering case related to excise policy, and seeking interim bail on health grounds.

Justice Amit Sharma’s vacation bench also asked the jail authorities to submit a report on Pillai’s treatment.

Pillai had approached the Supreme Court seeking eight weeks’ interim bail on health grounds, maintaining that he had been suffering from back pain for eight years and was currently suffering from severe back pain that was making it difficult for him to function on a daily basis. duties.

Pillai further claimed that his health had deteriorated during his stay in prison and he was at risk of permanent damage to his back due to lack of proper treatment. “In the meantime, the latest medical report regarding the health condition of the present applicant (Pillai) and the treatment given to him should be requested from the concerned Jail Governor,” the High Court said and directed that a copy of its order be sent to the Jail Superintendent for necessary information and compliance.

The case was referred for further hearing on June 14.

The High Court had earlier directed the ED to file its reply to Pillai’s anticipatory bail application

The High Court had earlier directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to verify the medical reports placed in Pillai’s file and file a reply to Pillai’s anticipatory bail application along with a verification report.

The lawyer appearing for the ED informed the High Court that his reply to Pillai’s bail application had been filed but had not yet been entered on the record.

The High Court ordered that the ED’s reply be entered into the record before the next hearing date.

Pillai was arrested by the Emergency Department on March 6 last year. It is alleged that he represented the ‘South Group’, which allegedly paid bribes of Rs 100 crore to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi for favors, in meetings with other accused during the period when the now abolished excise duty policy 2021 was in force. formulated and implemented.
