Armed carjacking in Pittsburgh: 2 minors, 18-year-old arrested

An 18-year-old and two juveniles arrested in connection with an armed carjacking in Pittsburgh

An 18-year-old and two juveniles have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Pittsburgh. Authorities were called over the weekend to a carjacking at Crawford Street and Center Avenue in the Hill District. Authorities say the vehicle fled the area but was spotted a short time later on Second Avenue and then headed southbound over the Birmingham Bridge. Thirty minutes after the call, police were able to stop the vehicle on East Carson Street. Three people in the vehicle were arrested and identified. Authorities said the car was stolen by the victim. After searching the vehicle, police discovered three handguns, an AR-style pistol, ammunition, magazines, marijuana, crack cocaine and multiple cell phones. Authorities say Darius Balthrop faces charges of aggravated assault of a motor vehicle, robbery, possession of a firearm without a license, terroristic threats and multiple possession. The minors are in juvenile detention.

Authorities say the vehicle fled the area but was spotted a short time later on Second Avenue, then heading southbound over the Birmingham Bridge.

Authorities said three people inside the vehicle were arrested and identified by the carjacking victim.

After searching the vehicle, police discovered three handguns, an AR-style pistol, ammunition, magazines, marijuana, crack cocaine and several cell phones.

Officials say Darius Balthrop faces charges of aggravated assault of a motor vehicle, robbery, possession of a firearm without a license, terroristic threats and multiple counts of possession.

The minors are under the care of a probation officer.
