Firefighters find a gunshot victim while extinguishing an apartment fire in Miami

US news

Miami firefighters are extinguishing a fire that broke out in an apartment building where a gunshot victim was found Monday morning, according to fire officials.

The Miami Fire Department reported a three-alarm fire at the Temple Court Apartments in downtown Miami. The fire quickly spread to the common part of the roof, and many crews worked on site to extinguish the flames.

The fire broke out on the third floor of the building, where firefighters say they found one person who had been shot. The victim was taken to hospital.

No further details were immediately available on the gunshot victim’s condition.

Firefighters rescued several people trapped in the burning building, including some from the balconies, officials said. About 50 people were evacuated from the scene.

Mayor Francis Suarez said it was the first three-alarm fire in 25 years.

“A fire of this scale is extremely dangerous,” Suarez said, adding that more than 40 Miami fire departments were dispatched to battle the flames.

Firefighters continued to fight the fire outside the building because it was too dangerous to enter, fire officials said.

Two firefighters were taken to hospital in stable condition. Due to the ongoing development of the situation, no information about any injuries sustained by residents was immediately available.

No details were immediately released about the cause of the fire.
