Students aged 13 and 14 have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a double-decker bus caught fire at Burnley bus station

Two students, aged 13 and 14, were arrested on suspicion of arson after an inferno engulfed a double-decker bus late yesterday evening.

At 11pm yesterday, five fire engines attended a burning vehicle at Burnley bus station.

Shocking footage shows fire rising through the roof of a double-decker bus, leaving only the charred remains of the bus.

Heroic firefighters battled the roaring flames for three hours using a range of tools including breathing apparatus, a ladder, cutting tools and a thermal imaging camera.

According to The Sun, no one was injured in the fire.

Police in Lancashire have arrested two teenage boys – both from Burnley – on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

The alleged offense against the two youths includes arson endangering life.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “Just before 11pm yesterday we were called to reports of a bus fire at Burnley Bus Station on Croft Street.

Officers attended the scene along with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and extinguished the fire.

“The bus and the roof of the bus station were destroyed.

“A 14-year-old boy from Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage – arson endangering life and remains in custody.”

Police also confirmed to MailOnline that they have since arrested another 13-year-old teenager for the same offence.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1592 of June 2024.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 11pm on June 10, 2024, five fire engines from Burnley, Nelson, Padiham, Great Harwood and an aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn attended a bus fire on Croft Street, Burnley.

“Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reel nozzles, one foam branch, one triple extension ladder, a 13.5 reach ladder, cutting tools and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

“Crews worked for three hours.
