Neral-Matheran toy train service suspended for four months

The much-loved Neral-Matheran toy train, which runs on the Neral-Aman Lodge route, will be temporarily suspended for four months. On Friday, officials said that services would be suspended from June 8 to October 15, 2024 for safety reasons in view of the ongoing monsoon season.

Every year, as a precautionary measure due to the risk of landslides, the Central Railway temporarily suspends the operation of the 21-km Neral-Matheran toy train route during the monsoon season. As per the announcement, Central Railways will continue to operate regular shuttle services connecting Matheran and Aman Lodge, located near Dasturi point. Access beyond this point, restricted to motor vehicle ambulances, is to a hill station 100 km from Mumbai.

According to Central Railways, six shuttle services of the heritage narrow gauge train will run from Monday to Friday on the Matheran-Aman Lodge route. The announcement shows that eight lines will run on this section on Saturday and Sunday.
