Newberry County, South Carolina (WOLO)– A K9 officer was shot as Newberry County Sheriff’s Office deputies and SLED agents attempted to serve a fugitive warrant in the Prosperity area near Gravel Road, NCSO reports.

When law enforcement went to serve the warrant, they found a person hiding in a family member’s home on Gravel Road.

Authorities say a law enforcement K9 officer, along with a deputy and SLED agents, found the person at the home when the man shot at the dog and them.

Investigators say a K9 officer was hit and shots were fired by law enforcement during the incident.

The K9 officer was taken to an emergency veterinarian, and deputies say the man was taken to a local trauma center.
