Man arrested after two-hour standoff with Marion police

A man was arrested Tuesday morning after a two-hour standoff with police at a Marion apartment building, according to a press release from the Marion Police Department.

On Tuesday morning, 32-year-old Nathan Dampier broke into an apartment in the 1400 block of Meadowview Drive. According to the release, police were called at 5:35 a.m. regarding a burglary in progress.

Dampier broke the contact ban by entering the apartment. He barricaded himself inside the branch and did not comply with police orders to leave the building. After about two hours of negotiations, Dampier left the building and was arrested at 7:29 a.m., according to the release.

Dampier was charged with violating a no-contact order, a fourth-degree felony.
