An 18-year-old man has been charged after a fight led to a fatal shooting at a Kannapolis home

An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a Kannapolis woman, police said.

On Monday, around 8:45 p.m., Kannapolis police officers were called to a home on Lane Street at Kiser Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered that several people had gotten into a fight and a woman had been shot.

Police said Ebony Gill, 43, who lived in the house, died at the scene.

With the help of neighbors who saw him leave the scene, investigators were able to charge 18-year-old Jawaren Smith with first-degree murder. He is being held in the Cabarrus County Jail.
