Westport students win ‘Eddy’ award for video productions

WESTPORT — Video productions by six groups of Westport students were recognized in this year’s Access Awareness Awards program, sponsored by the Area 9 Television Council and the cable company Altice.

The competition, open to students from kindergarten to high school, was open to entries in the following categories: primary-age students with adult supervision, animation/stop-motion, experimental, documentary for high school students, general interest, narrative/fiction works, news programs , public service announcements and school news.

The productions were broadcast on Altice Educational Access Channel 78.

The Westport Public Schools “Eddy” (Ed Access) award winners are:

“Premonitions About the Wreck”, third place in the High School News Show category. The show was produced by Mary Elizabeth Fulco’s Staples High School advanced journalism class.

“Stress,” second place in the High School Public Service Announcement category. Students Jack Schwartz, Allison Cancro, Pranav Pothukuchi and Sanchit Arora received support on the project from Nicole Moeller, associate librarian at Staples High School.

“On the Wreck – Inklings: World Language Week”, second place in the High School News Story category, produced by the Staples Advanced Journalism class.

“Bench for KHS buddies”, 1st place in the Primary School Public Service Announcement category. Students Brayden Levy, Shane Warshaw, Alexander Wilson and Jude Hix from Kings Highway Primary School received support on the project from Technology teacher Tara Doyle.

“Women’s History Month: The Community’s Highlight” 1st place in the category of a story about general primary school topics. Students Harper Bell and Madeline Olsen were supported in the project by teacher Tara Doyle.

“Cheetah Vision Special: Women’s History Community Highlights” second place in the category: Story on a general Primary School topic. Students Jack Bell and Sable Shurman were supported in the project by teacher Tara Doyle.
