Sumter firefighters rescued the victim of a house fire that occurred on Alice Drive.
Just after 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, firefighters responded to a report of a building fire with the potential victim still on Alice Drive. According to the incident report, units arrived on scene to find a single-story home with smoke and flames visible from the front and right side.
Sumter Police officers responding to the scene confirmed that a victim was inside. After entering the home, firefighters conducted a search and located the victim in the rear left bedroom of the home. The report states that the victim was removed from the home through a window and transported by Sumter EMS to a local hospital for further treatment.
According to the incident report, investigators determined that the possible source of the fire was a fryer located near the stove, but could not confirm this. The fire was found to be unintentional.
Firefighters secured the house before leaving the scene at 5:40 a.m. Sunday.
