Two arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man in LaPlace

LAPLACE, La. (WGNO) – Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man in LaPlace on Wednesday, June 5.

According to the St. Parish Sheriff’s Office. John the Baptist, 21-year-old Mehki Collins and 22-year-old Benjamin Jackson have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Tyreik Jackson.

Upon arrival at the scene in the 1500 block of Belle Point Boulevard, officers found Jackson already shot and ordered emergency responders to transport him to the hospital, where he later died from his extensive injuries.

The arrests were made based on witness statements and available body camera footage that sheriff’s office detectives reviewed after the incident Wednesday afternoon.
