Update on the disappearance of 12-year-old Maria Gomez-Perez in Hall County

On Tuesday, Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch provided an update on the missing Maria Gomez-Perez case.

HALL COUNTY, Ga. – Dozens of investigators continue to urgently search for a missing 12-year-old Hall County girl.

On Tuesday, Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch provided an update on the missing Maria Gomez-Perez case.

Authorities previously said Gomez-Perez was last seen at her home on Westside Drive on May 29 and was reported missing the next day. He is 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 100 to 110 pounds, has brown eyes and long black hair. Investigators previously said she was last seen wearing a light blue shirt.

“We are all doing everything we can to bring Maria home safe and sound. And make no mistake, to the men and women of the sheriff’s office and many other agencies, Mary’s image is seared in our hearts and minds,” Couch said in a statement Tuesday’s news conference.

In addition to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Couch said investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Guatemalan consulate have more than 70 investigators working around the clock to find Gomez-Perez.

So far, investigators said they have received nearly 70 tips in the Gomez-Perez case and searched his home using a drone and a K-9. Couch said Gomez-Perez’s family, school officials, her friends and neighbors were also interviewed.

“Our team canvassed the neighborhood, which means going door to door and talking to every person who lives there,” Couch added. “Additionally, we used our marine boat to search parts of Lake Lanier.”
